Mikey Duarte d Custom Phillies Jersey edicates double to late sister

GLENDALE, Ariz. — Things may n Customized Philadelphia Phillies Jersey ever again be normal for Mikey Duarte, but if there’s one place he can go to feel like he did before life became complicated and maddeningly unfair, it’s probably a baseball diamond.

The White Sox Minor League shortstop has spent the past six months mourning the loss of his sister, Christiana, who was tragically killed in the mass shooting last October in Las Vegas. Duarte spoke at length about his ordeal when he first arrived to Spring Training more than a month ago, and he did so again on Wednesday, after he doubled in the ninth inning of the White Sox 4-3 loss to the Padres. “That was for my sister,” an emotional Duarte said.

Christiana Duarte was 16 months younger than Mikey and working for both the Los Angeles Rams and Kings at the time of the shooting. Mikey had a ticket to the concert where the shooting took place, but he was rehabilitating from a serious head injury, a skull fracture he suffered in his second Minor League game. His sister took the ticket instead.

Since then, it’s been about picking up the pieces and trying to go on. Duarte, a 23rd-round pick in the 2017 Draft out of UC Irvine, is dealing with more than any 23-year-old should have to. He has suffered physical wounds from a head trauma that could have derailed his career. Now, piled on top of that are the permanent emotional scars from the loss of his sister.

Baseball can assist with the healing.  Custom Phillies Jersey Duarte, who vowed to dedicate the rest of his career to Christiana, said he feels her presence every time he steps onto the field.

“Swing hard and do what I’ve done my whole life and play and hit for her,” he said. “She’s watching over me and my mom and dad and I’m just very blessed by God to play this game after a head injury.”

Duarte is honoring Christiana this season by having her name on his bats and gloves, and may also sport a patch in her memory.

The healing process is ongoing, and the shortstop acknowledged everything has been “a grind” since losing his sister.

“She’s in heaven, watching over me and my mom and dad,” he said. “My trainers and best friends and girlfriend and my parents have definitely helped me get on the right path back to http://www.ecustombaseballgears.com/Custom-Philadelphia-Phillies-Jersey  playing baseball after what Men’s Philadelphia Phillies Authentic Personalized Home White Baseball Jersey  happened, my injury and my sister.

“But I think knowing that my sister’s with me more now than she was back then is helping me get through the days playing baseball.”

“I want to go into this week healthy and be fully prepared for the season to start,” he said prior to Monday’s game, a 15-2 win over the D-backs. “There’s a few other things that I still want to sync. But, I want to complete Spring Training as healthy as I can be, and start the season strong.”

White Sox Spring Training: Info | Tickets | Schedule

It’s been a slow spring for the powerful first baseman. Entering Monday’s game, he had seven hits over 38 spring at-bats (.184) with two homers and six RBIs. But after a day off on Sunday, he found his groove against the D-backs, walking in his first two plate appearances, before doubling to center in the fifth.

Tweet from @mike_petriello: Jose Abreu hit a ball at 113.5 MPH in today’s spring game. He only hit three balls harder all of last year. I keep feeling like he’s underrated. pic.twitter.com/2ZJuH6rSBw

Abreu has been on a slightly limited spring schedule compared to some of the expected lineup regulars, by design. Manager Rick Renteria has been diligent about how he’s handled Abreu’s workload, finding a balance between making sure the first baseman is both prepared for the regular season, while also not overdoing things.

:: Spring Training coverage presented by Camping World ::

“He likes to play every day,” Renteria said. “I don’t think he likes me taking him out of games that we’ve had earlier this spring, or recently, where I want to get him http://www.ecustombaseballgears.com/Custom-Philadelphia-Phillies-Jersey  out after three or four at-bats and he wanted to finish it. As long as he’s feeling good, I don’t mind that. I think that the biggest concern with everybody is making sure they get out of here healthy.”

Most of the projected Opening Day lineup can expect to see more playing time this week, to create more of a regular-season feel, as was the case on Monday. A day after most of the regulars rested, the offensive output during Monday’s game with the D-backs was more in line with what the Sox foresee come Opening Day.

“We’re trying to extend everybody else,” Renteria said. “Probably have back-to-back days where you see the same lineup, get them as many at-bats as possible, try to extend their innings and continue to get their legs underneath them.”

Camp battle

Left-hander Hector Santiago, a non-roster invitee auditioning for a spot on the White Sox pitching staff, further strengthened his case with two more scoreless innings against the D-backs on Monday. The 30-year-old Santiago walked one and struck out two and lowered his Cactus League ERA to 0.75.

Santiago is challenging Carson Fulmer for the final spot in the White Sox rotation. Fulmer also pitched effectively Monday, throwing four scoreless innings and walking three.

An educational offseason

White Sox infielder Tyler Saladino fulfilled one of his most important goals this offseason when he received a bachelor’s degree in sports management from Oral Roberts University.

“It was something I was really hoping to be able to do,” he said. “Prior to signing out of college, just in talking with scouts and stuff, they said make sure you don’t forget about school and try to give yourself some sort of plan to make that possible and pursue it.”

He played baseball at Oral Roberts — “It was my only offer” —  Custom Phillies Jersey Cheap and was down to one class by the end of last season. He took that one online from his home in Southern California.

Video: MIL@CWS: Saladino slugs a solo homer to left field

“It was a really cool accomplishment,” he said. “It felt really good. I can relate it to reaching the Major Leagues, where you really feel you accomplished something big in your life. It was a huge weight off the shoulders.”

Saladino isn’t anticipating that second career happening anytime soon. He’s 28 years old and has shown he can play all over the infield. But, when that time comes, he wants to coach and teach.

“I’ve always wanted to coach baseball,” he said. “When I’m done pl Custom Phillies Jersey aying, I’d like to be able to go back and help the kids by teaching and coaching. That’s been my focus in school — to be able to help someone.”

Up next

The White Sox will host the Rangers at Camelback Ranch on Tuesday at 3:05 p.m. CT. Right-hander Lucas Giolito, sporting a 3.18 ERA over three spring outings, will start for the White Sox. Right-hander Doug Fister will take the mound for Texas. Watch the game live on MLB.TV.

The right-hander entered the start with an 18.90 ERA through his first four starts of spring and gave up seven runs in 1 2/3 innings in his last start. However, Fulmer showed no signs of those struggles as he struck out the first batter he faced en route to retiring six of the first seven.

Fulmer appeared headed for some struggles as he opened the third with a pair of walks, but after a brief mound visit he retired three in a row to escape the jam.

Other top prospect performances from Monday’s action:

• No. 41 overall prospect Ryan McMahon (Rockies No. 2) hit his second homer of Spring Training, a two-run shot that capped a four-run third inning. McMahon, who  Women’s Philadelphia Phillies Authentic Personalized Home White Baseball Jersey is hitting .339, finished 1-for-2.

Orioles No. 3 prospect Chance Sisco and Jomar Reyes (No. 21) combined for three hits, a homer and two RBIs in Baltimore’s win over the Tigers. Sisco continued his scorching-hot spring with a pair of extra-base hits, going 2-for-2 with a double and a triple to boost his average to .393, while Reyes, who went 1-for-4, drove in two with his first homer.

He finished last season at Class A Kannapolis, but he appears to have pitched well enough this spring to earn a promotion to Double-A. He said he will check with coaches on Wednesday to find out how many more, if any, Major League appearances he has this spring.

“I’ll be leaving the camp feeling good abo Men’s Philadelphia Phillies Authentic Personalized Home White Baseball Jersey ut what I have to work on to keep progressing,” he said.

Star in the making?
Eloy Jimenez might be that magical player a franchise acquires every generation or so if it’s lucky. So far, he has given the White Sox no reason to think otherwise.

His talent is the kind that can do more than change games. It can change franchises, change them dramatically. He has reminded the White Sox of that these last three days.

Since returning from a bout with left knee tendinitis, this is what the 21-year-old did in his first six plate appearances:

– Home run

– Home run

– Triple

– Walk

– Walk

– Single

His streak of reaching bas Custom Phillies Jersey Cheap e ended at six plate appearances when he struck out in the top of the fifth inning on Monday night. He grounded out in the seventh inning to drop his spring batting average all the way to .571.

Given that he has n Women’s Philadelphia Phillies Authentic Personalized Home White Baseball Jersey ever played above Class A, he seems likely to begin the season in Double-A Birmingham, but his track to the Major Leagues could not be faster.

Jimenez also was acquired from the Cubs in last season’s Quintana trade. MLB Pipeline has him ranked No. 4 on its Top 100 Prospects list, and on a team with seven players on the list, he’s the best of the best.

Good news after collision
The White Sox received positive news on both left fielder Nicky Delmonico and shortstop Tyler Saladino, who were injured in a frightening outfield collision on Sunday.

Delmonico will resume swinging the bat on Wednesday and he said he’ll be ready to go Opening Day. Meanwhile, manager Rick Renteria said Saladino is “day to day” after suffering a mild concussion.

Video: Delmonico on his shoulder injury after hard collision

Delmonico underwent an MRI after landing hard on his left shoulder after the collision. He said the MRI showed no damage.

“I feel like I can go out there and play today,” he said Monday. “Tomorrow get treatment. Swing the bat Wednesday and see how it feels. I think it was more of a scare than anything else. I went down, and obviously I have a recent injury with my left shoulder. Now everything feels good. I didn’t wake up sore. It’s good.”

As for Saladino, who was at Camelback Ranch for evaluation, Renteria seemed confident he would not be sidelined long-term.

“Tyler is OK,” Renteria said. “He came in today. We saw him, he looked good. He said yesterday he was a little shaken. But he feels better than anticipated, I guess, after what occurred. But we’re hoping that’s also a day-to-day situation. We’re very fortunate with both of them.”

Worth noting
• Third baseman Matt Davidson doubled and singled on Monday and is hitting .375 this spring.

• Center fielder Adam Engel led off the game with a home run and added another in the ninth, giving him four this spring.

Camp battles
Miguel Gonzalez, competing for a rotation spot, allowed two runs in four innings (47 pitches) Monday morning in a “B” game against the Dodgers. Joakim Soria, Nate Jones and Luis Avilan each pitched one inning.

Next up
The White Sox have Tuesday off, but right-handers James Shields and Michael Kopech will pitch in camp games. The next Cactus League game is at 3:05 p.m. CT Wednesday on the road against the Brewers, with right-hander Carson Fulmer getting his fourth start.

C Custom Phillies Jersey arson Fulmer brimming with confidence

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Though his Cactus League performances haven’t always produced ideal results, one constant has stayed with Carson Fulmer throughout: his confidence.

When exactly that journey begins in earnest is still to be determined, but when he does cement his place in the Sox rotation, he’ll know he belongs.

That time may be coming sooner rather than later. Fulmer had his longest and best outing of the spring on Monday, pitching four scoreless innings against the D-backs in a 15-2 win at Salt River Fields.

White Sox Spring Training: Info | Tickets | Schedule

It wasn’t a perfect outing — he walked three, including issuing back-to-back free passes to begin the third inning — but comparatively speaking, it was what the White Sox, and Fulmer, needed.

“I definitely needed that outing,” he said. “I was able to locate really well. I was able to get some pretty good hitters out. I was able to slow down when I needed to and make the pitches that I needed to make. It’s definitely where I need to be right now going into the season, and it’s something I can build off of.”

:: Spring Training coverage presented by Camping World ::

Fulmer speaks in terms of being part of the rotation, rather than trying to make the rotation. He was the favorite when Spring Training began to win the fifth starter spot, but a rough month, that prior to Monday’s outing had him sporting an 18.90 ERA, prompted speculation that he may not open the season with the Major League club.

He’s been outpitched by his closest competitor, lefty Hector Santiago, but the White Sox are clearly hoping Fulmer does enough in the final leg of the spring to break camp with the big league club.

The goal for the Sox this year is to continue to build their organization from the lower levels on up, while easing the top talent into regular roles in the Majors. If that is the case, Fulmer would be a perfect fit for the Sox — confident and young, and unfazed by the stumbles and failures that are part of developing into a M Women’s Philadelphia Phillies Authentic Personalized Home White Baseball Jersey ajor Leaguer.

But, he needs to show he can get outs with regularity at this level, and Monday’s outing helped. Fulmer didn’t allow a D-backs hit, and he struck out four.

Video: CWS@ARI: Fulmer on his strong start vs. D-backs

Fulmer said he threw mostly fastballs, but also had a good  Men’s Philadelphia Phillies Authentic Personalized Home White Baseball Jersey feel for his breaking stuff. The Cactus League environment can often skew a pitcher’s effectiveness, but Fulmer felt in control with all of his pitches in this game.

“I’m right where I need to be with my pitches, and it’s something I’ll continue to work on and move on to the next start,” he said.

A week’s worth of games remain on the exhibition schedule before decisions have to be made. Fulmer envisions himself as a part of that opening week rotation.

“I personally would like to be part of a rotation that’s very competitive with each other — that’s  Custom Phillies Jersey what drives me and pushes me,” he said. “We definitely have that here. A lot of stuff as baseball players is out of our control. We try to come each day and work as hard as we can to get to where we want to be. This team is really special and http://www.ecustombaseballgears.com/Custom-Philadelphia-Phillies-Jersey  I’m glad to be a part of this rotation.”

“Wow,” was the first word said by Buehrle after three standing ovations, speeches from emcee Ken “Hawk” Harrelson, pitching coach Don Cooper, Hall of Famer and former teammate Frank Thomas and White Sox chairman Jerry Reinsdorf. “This is amazing.

“People texted me before we got here saying how crowded it was. Me trying to get here two hours before. It’s usually not that busy. Amazing feeling,” added Buehrle during his media session in the third inning of Saturday’s contest with the A’s. “Can’t really put it into words how you feel. I wasn’t actually as nervous as I thought I would be once I was up there. But obviously glad it’s over with, and it’s a special day.”

Buehrle joined Nellie Fox (2), Harold Baines (3), Luke Appling (4), Minnie Minoso (9), Luis Aparicio (11), Paul Konerko (14), Ted Lyons (16), Billy Pierce (19), Thomas (35) and Carlton Fisk (72) in a ceremony lasting just over 30 minutes. Modeling a fashion similar to his quick mound work, Buehrle took the podium at about 12:55 p.m. CT, and his speech lasted a little under a tidy five minutes. Buehrle played 12 seasons with the White Sox, compiling a record of 161-119, a 3.83 ERA and was a 16-game winner for the 2005 team that won the franchise’s first World Series since 1917. He started Game 2 of that World Series and saved Game 3.

The White Sox commissioned a piece of 56 artwork, created by one-time slugger Ron Kittle. They also presented Buehrle a four-wheeler for fishing and hunting, a truck with 27 Up, 27 Down on the back in honor of his perfect game thrown on July 23, 2009, against the Rays and a return of the baseball used by Buehrle on his miraculous between-the-legs flip on a play at first base against the Indians on Opening Day 2010.

“As I look around this stadium it’s amazing how much Josh Donaldson Jersey these people love you and how many people came out to see you on this great day,” said Reinsdorf, who had high praise for Buehrle, aside from joking his quick mound work killed the concessions. “In case you weren’t aware of it, we don’t draw 40,000 every day.”

In Buehrle’s speech, he thanked his wife, Jamie, his children, Braden and Brooklyn, and his parents, John and Pat. He thanked all his friends and family members in attendance, former teammates who were there and the organization from Reinsdorf to coaches to everyone else in the ballpark who helped him and his family. He also praised the fans, who responded with rousing cheers as they have pretty much every step of Buehrle’s career.

There were emotional moments Kevin Pillar Womens Jersey for the usually even-keel Buehrle. Nothing topped seeing the actual unveiling between Thomas and Fisk.

“Emotions and trying to breathe deep and don’t start crying, tearing up,” Buehrle said. “I was trying to hold my emotions together. But just looking up there and seeing that. I can’t put it into words.

“A peek to the future is now, right? I guess that’s a record, those three home runs,” A’s manager Bob Melvin said. “It’s amazing. These guys have fed off each other all through the system, they know each other really well and have won together. The more the merrier at this point.”

Fans played rock, paper, scissors for foul ball

It marked the second time ever three teammates had launched their first Major League home runs in the same game, according to Elias Sports. It was last accomplished in professional baseball history by the Kansas City Packers of the Federal League in 1914 when Art Kruger, John Potts and Duke Kenworthy accomplished the feat. The Federal League played as a third major league during the 1914 and ’15 season.Men’s Majestic Flexbase Authentic 11 Kevin Pillar Toronto Blue Jays Alternate Royal Blue Jersey.

Saturday was also the first time all season Shields had given up multiple homers in a start after allowing a Major League-worst 40 home runs last season. Shields went three-plus innings, allowing six runs on seven hits while walking three on 85 pitches. It marked the first time in five starts he didn’t go at least five innings, putting a damper on the game in which he recorded his 2,000th career strikeout.

Oakland right-hander Daniel Gossett benefitted from the early offense to cruise to his first career win, tossing six innings and allowing just a pair of unearned runs on 93 pitches. His defense didn’t help him, as the Athletics extended their Kevin Pillar Womens Jersey Major League lead with three errors — two of which directly led to runs. Despite the lack of defensive support, the Oakland offense did more than enough to boost the rookie.

“The whole ordeal is a special experience for everyone,” Gossett said. “To get out of there with my first win was just the icing on the cake. It was an awesome experience to be a part of.”

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Just a bit outside: Shields was in trouble from the get-go, in part because of how he lost the first batter he faced. The right-hander had leadoff man Matt Joyce on a 2-2 count, but proceeded to spike a breaking ball in the dirt and miss just outside to walk Joyce. His very next pitch, an 85.5-mph cutter, was driven out of the ballpark by Olson to open up the scoring in what would be a 29-pitch first inning for Shields.

You gone: Athletics shortstop Adam Rosales led off the top of the seventh inning with a chopper to third base, which was fielded by Todd Frazier before he threw it to Jose Abreu at first base. The umpires initially ruled Rosales safe at first and gave Frazier an error, saying Abreu was off the bag. The White Sox challenged the ruling, but it was upheld. After the challenge, Frazier got into a heated discussion with third-base umpire Jim Wolf and was promptly ejected. Manager Rick Renteria was then ejected for the second consecutive game and third consecutive home game for arguing with Wolf, and at one point threw his hat on the ground in protest. It was Frazier’s first career ejection, and Renteria’s 10th. “It’s frustrating,” Frazier said. “You can’t get the call right in New York, too, as well. They’ve got every different angle. They can zoom in. They can zoom in as close as possible and to think that they cannot make that call it’s just frustrating with the technology we have today. It’s just crazy. It boggles your mind. It really does. You know. I’m the one. I’m vocal. I’m emotional.”

Renteria said he grew frustrated and said Frazier — like Tim Anderson, who got tossed Friday — was too mild-mannered of a guy to have such a short leash with umpires and said he was “pissed” to lose a key member of his lineup.

“Frazier’s never been tossed,” Renteria said. “Timmy Anderson is the most mild-mannered person you’ve ever met in your life. Yet he’s a competitor. So when you see these guys express themselves in a certain way, consider who they are, what they’re about.”Women’s Toronto Blue Jays Josh Donaldson Majestic White Flex Base 40th Anniversary Patch Jersey.

AFTER FURTHER REVIEW
Shortly after Frazier’s error was upheld, another White Sox error was added to the board through a replay review. Athletics third baseman Ryon Healy hit a grounder to short, which Anderson bobbled before throwing to Abreu at first. The Athletics challenged the initial ruling that Healy was out and the call was overturned following a minute-long review. Anderson was charged with an error.

WHAT’S NEXT

Adam Engel of White Kevin Pillar Youth Jersey Sox hits 1st career homer

CHICAGO — The White Sox jersey No. 41 worn by Adam Engel for his Major League debut on May 27 against the Tigers was presented to his dad recently Josh Donaldson Jersey For Sale as a Father’s Day gift.

And the baseball Engel connected on for his first career home run during a 5-3 loss to the A’s on Sunday afternoon at Guaranteed Rate Field also will have a

“Give it to my parents more than likely,” said the 25-year-old Engel, after Oakland completed the three-game sweep of his team and dropped Kevin Pillar Youth Jersey the White Sox to 32-42 overall. “I try to give them all my memorable jerseys or bats or balls or whatever the case may be. They do whatever they want with it.”

Based on Engel’s early Major League results, the No. 17 White Sox prospect per MLBPipeline.com might have more significant memorabilia to come. Engel has expertly handled center field, which was the trait the organization expected from him when he was promoted.

Sunday’s 1-for-3 showing left the right-handed hitter’s average at .308 and his OBP at .341 over 14 games. Engel, who also has four stolen bases to leave him one off Tim Anderson’s team lead, has fine-tuned his offensive approach since arriving with the White Sox.

That change includes dropping his hands a little lower at the plate.

“You get to watch a lot of video and kind of see what guys are trying to do to certain players,” Engel said. “You always have to kind of keep in the back of your mind that you are somebody different than what you might be watching on video.

“So, you just try to put that all together and make sure you are prepared before each game. As far as Kevin Pillar Jersey mechanics go, I messed with my hands a little bit here and there height wise. Just try to get them to a closer place to where I swing from. But at the same time it’s pretty similar I would say.”

Sonny Gray yielded Engel’s home run with two outs in the third, the same Sonny Gray who has been the topic of numerous trade rumors with the non-waiver Trade Deadline fast approaching. Engel connected on a 2-1, two-seam fastball, with an exit velocity of 100.2 mph, a launch angle of 33 degrees and a hit probability of 48 percent Kevin Pillar Womens Jersey for the 382-foot drive to left per Statcast™.

As he reached the dugout, White Sox manager Rick Renteria high-fived Engel, but the rest of his teammates gave him an initial silent treatment. The celebration began shortly thereafter, with Engel getting the ball back from the bullpen, who retrieved it from a young fan who ended up with the home run.

To enhance the day, Engel had friends and family in town and at the game.

“It was a pretty cool feeling,” Engel said. “The guys ahead of me worked some deep counts and did some work early for me. I got a fastball up in the zone — I was ahead in the count. I was able to see it, kind of looking for it and put a good swing on it.”

A’s rally behind Sonny Josh Donaldson Jersey For Sale Gray to beat White Sox

CHICAGO — A two-run eighth-inning rally, highlighted by Yonder Alonso’s go-ahead RBI single, sparked the A’s to a 5-3 comeback victory, secured a series sweep and handed the White Sox their sixth loss in their last seven games on Sunday at Guaranteed Rate Field.Men’s Majestic Flexbase Authentic 11 Kevin Pillar Toronto Blue Jays Alternate Royal Blue Jersey.

Trailing 2-1 in the eighth with White Sox setup man Tommy Kahnle in the game, the A’s finally managed to get a rally going as Franklin Barreto singled and Ryon Healy reached on Matt Davidson’s error. Khris Davis pushed across the tying run on a sharp single to right, followed by Alonso’s lofted fly ball off closer David Robertson that fell in to give Oakland the lead. The ball, which was just out of the reach of White Sox left fielder Melky Cabrera, had a hit probability of just two percent according to Statcast™.

“Last Kevin Pillar Womens Jersey couple games, we get on the board early, and whenever you do that you have some momentum, some confidence,” A’s manager Bob Melvin said. “When you get behind, and we were basically stagnant for a good portion of the game today, not even getting good at-bats, let alone opportunities, then all of a sudden they came and we kept fighting back. From the sixth inning on, the at-bats were completely different.”

It marked the first time this season the White Sox had lost in the 29 games they’ve led after seven innings. White Sox manager Rick Renteria said he didn’t expect Cabrera — who was shifted to pull against the left-handed Alonso — to have much of a chance at the ball off the crack of the bat.

“He was actually playing a little more to the pull side than he was to the line,” Renteria said. “I don’t think he was going to be able to get to it,

A’s right-hander Sonny Gray matched Derek Holland for much of the afternoon, allowing a pair of runs (one earned) in seven innings of work to keep things close while striking out seven on 101 pitches. Gray’s lone mistake came in the third, as White Sox rookie center fielder Adam Engel uncorked on a 91.6 mph center-cut fastball and shot it into the left field bleachers for his first career homer to make it 1-0. Sean Doolittle and Santiago Casilla combined to hold the lead in the eighth and ninth, giving Gray his third Kevin Pillar Youth Jersey win of the season.

For the A’s, it marked their first road series sweep of the season, as they Kevin Pillar Jersey improved to 12-25 away from the Coliseum.

“It’s no secret we struggle on the road,” Gray said. “We’re aware of it. We really put together three solid games here. We got big hits when we needed to, our starting pitching was really good, and our bullpen was really good. Hopefully that’s something we can continue to do.”

Holland, despite entering Sunday with a 12.64 June ERA, earned his team-leading second quality start this month and kept the A’s bats in check for the first time all series. Holland went six-plus innings, allowing one run on just four hits while striking out six on a season-high 112 pitches. Holland’s start saved a pitching staff that has struggled to provide length and quality from its rotation, with the group having a 5.88 ERA and just six quality starts during its last 31 games entering Sunday. While the White Sox still sit last in the American League with 26 quality starts, Holland was at least able resettle himself after a rough month.

“I think I’ve done a pretty good job of getting those quality starts as much as I can, but I’ve got to go longer,” Holland said. “I should be able to get into the seventh and not have 110 pitches or whatnot. I need to go out there and go longer. It’s all about getting those quality starts.”

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Got a better jump: The White Sox looked to be threatening in the first inning, as second baseman Alen Hanson led off the game with a double to right. Then with Hansen at third with one out and Jose Abreu at bat, Hanson attempted to swipe a run on a wild pitch from Gray. A’s catcher Josh Phegley got the ball to Gray in time for the out. In the fourth inning, the White Sox executed, taking advantage of Phegley’s passed ball as Abreu scored from third to make it 2-0.

“It was huge. That was really big,” Gray said. “One out, a runner on third, you really don’t draw it up like that. But it was huge for me going forward in that game. Any way possible, to not let that run score in the first, and when I saw the pitch kind of get away, I immediately thought, just get to
Women’s Toronto Blue Jays Josh Donaldson Majestic White Flex Base 40th Anniversary Patch Jersey home and hopefully something will happen, and we kind of just turned a bad play into a good play.”

Insurance: A’s shortstop Adam Rosales appeared to be in position to tie the game in the seventh on Jed Lowrie’s pinch-hit double, but was held up rounding third base. After Oakland took the lead in the eighth, Rosales made sure there was no doubt he was scoring in the ninth with a Statcast-projected 387-foot shot off Robertson in the ninth. Matt Joyce followed with a Statcast-projected 422-foot shot off Chris Beck, giving Oakland back-to-back homers for the fourth time this season and a 5-2 cushion. With an exit velocity of 106.6 mph, Joyce’s homer was tied for his hardest-hit this season and his fourth-hardest hit ball since Statcast™ was introduced in 2015.
