Tigers slug Walter Payton Throwback Jersey 12 XBHs to defeat White Sox

DETROIT — Led by J.D. Martinez and Miguel Cabrera, the Tigers used a team-wide onslaught to secure a 15-5 win over the White Sox on Friday night at Comerica Park. Detroit overwhelmed Chicago early, scoring 10 runs on 10 hits in the first three innings, with every hitter in the lineup reaching safely at least once in that span. Michael Fulmer (6-3) had his MLB-best quality start streak snapped at 10, but received enough support to win with five runs allowed over seven innings.

“There are going to be days where our offense is good enough that we should do Men’s 1985 Chicago Bears 34 Walter Payton Mitchell and Ness Authentic Throwback Navy Blue Jersey that for pitchers,” Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said. “We should score enough runs even when they’re not at their sharpest or it isn’t a quote-unquote quality start.”

The Tigers have been on-again, off-again offensively through two months this season, but Friday they showed what happens when everything goes right. Against Derek Holland (4-5), who entered the game tied for the fourth-best ERA among MLB starters (2.37), Detroit teed off for eight runs (including three home runs). Hard contact was a big part of the success, as Detroit recorded six barrels off Holland, the most Walter Payton 1985 Jersey he’s allowed in a start in the Statcast™ Era.

“Tomorrow is a new day. Get ready for that and move on,” Holland said. “These things happen, and you have to get past it.”

• Holland struggles at start of Sox road trip

After a grueling 11-game, 10-day road trip spanning three cities, the Tigers had an off-day Thursday, their first since April 15. Ausmus said before the game that he was tired of using the long road trip as an excuse, but his team’s offensive burst suggests there could be truth behind the claim.

“The fact that we haven’t played as well, we’ve had some injuries, we’ve had a little bit of a tough schedule and we’re still in it,” Ausmus said. “I think that bodes well.”

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
J.D. reheats: After an explosive 2017 debut three weeks ago, Martinez had cooled off lately. He entered the game hitting 2-for-22 (.091) in his past seven games, including 0-for-8 with three strikeouts last weekend against the White Sox. But Friday, he lit up Chicago for three extra-base hits and two RBIs, Men’s 1985 Chicago Bears 34 Walter Payton Mitchell and Ness Authentic Throwback Navy Blue Jersey finishing just a single shy of the cycle.

Miggy hits 1K: With his second double in as many innings to start the game, Cabrera notched his 1,000th career extra-base hit. He’s fourth on the active leaderboard for extra-base hits and 39th all-time. It was also Cabrera’s first game of the season with more than one extra-base hit. More >

EXCUSED ABSENCE
White Sox reliever Michael Ynoa faced exactly two hitters in the third before departing with a sore right quad and being replaced on the mound by Gregory Infante. White Sox’ Customized Chicago Bears Jersey Chris Beck emerges as relief weapon

DETROIT — Much of the attention directed at the 2017 White Sox bullpen has focused upon the great starts from closer David Robertson, Tommy Kahnle and
Men’s 1985 Chicago Bears 34 Walter Payton Mitchell and Ness Authentic Throwback Navy Blue Jersey Anthony Swarzak.

The name of Chris Beck should not get lost in that mix.

Full Game Coverage

Beck entered Friday’s series opener in Detroit having Customized Chicago Bears Jersey retired 23 of the last 26 batters he has faced as a regular piece of Rick Renteria’s relief crew. Attacking the strike zone stands as a simple reason as to why thePersonalized Bears Football Jersey 26-year-old has emerged.

“Just really dumbing it down, strike one,” Beck Custom Bears Jerseysaid. “It’s a game we play, a game of inches. So strike one gets you in better cWalter Payton 1985 Jerseyounts. Avoiding the walk column as best as possible. Staying aggressive.

“Getting out there and getting the ball in your hand is the biggest difference. You

Beck added a split-finger to his arsenal in 2016, and he’s using it effectively again this season. Beck also has “bared down” more on his slider, trying to regain or rediscover the arm slot he had with the pitch at Georgia Southern.

“It’s been a battle to get it back,” said Beck, who has a 2.84 ERA in 14 games, with

Carlos Rodon, who has been on the disabled list with biceps bursitis in his left shoulder since the start of the season, threw another successful simulated game yesterday in Arizona.

“We’re getting ready to have him move forward in his next phase,” Renteria said. “The next phase could be going out to start competing in some games on a rehab, but that’s still to be determined as to when and how and where.”

DETROIT — Carlos Rodon, who Custom Bears Jersey has been sidelined since the start of the season with biceps bursitis in his left shoulder, will make an injury rehab start for Class A Winston-Salem at Carolina on Tuesday. It will be Rodon’s first game action since his lone Cactus League contest against the Angels on March 19 where he struck out five, including Mike Trout.

Rodon threw his latest in a line of simulated games on Thursday at Camelback Ranch in Arizona. There was no word from the White Sox as to how many rehab starts the southpaw would need before a return to the rotation was considered, although four injury rehab starts to build up innings and pitch count would put him in line to rejoin the team at home at the end of July, barring any setbacks.

“It’s good news for us,” White Sox manager Rick Renteria said. “So we’ll see how that proceeds, and hopefully it’s something positive. Hopefully this one continues to move forward in the right direction. And we’ll re-evaluate where he’s at after that.”

During the conclusion of the White Sox last road trip in Arizona, Jose Abreu reached 100 home runs for his career by connecting off Patrick Corbin on May 23. “All my respect for him,” said Abreu through interpreter Billy Russo. “I was watching the recap of the game last night, and I was really happy for him because I know the kind of player he is.

Piersall passes away
Jim Piersall, a one-time colorful part of the White Sox television broadcast team and roving outfield instructor for the Cubs, passed away Saturday at age 87.

Piersall played 17 seasons for five teams and hit 104 home runs, including his 100th where he backpedaled around the bases. Piersall won two Gold Glove Awards as an outfielder.

“Ted Williams said he was the greatest center fielder he ever saw,” said White Sox television play-by-play announcer Ken ‘Hawk’ Harrelson.

Darrin Jackson was a Cubs outfielder when Piersall worked for the organization Walter Payton Throwback Jersey in the late 80s. Jackson called Piersall very good at what he did and very passionate, adding Piersall provided him solid advice upon going into broadcasting.

“The advice he gave me was, ‘Do it your own way. Don’t listen to anybody. You be you, and broadcast the way you want to broadcast,'” Jackson said. “He was always giving me advice, whether it was as an outfielder or broadcaster.

Jimmy Piersall passes away Walter Payton 1985 Jersey at 87

Former Red Sox outfielder Jimmy Piersall, known for his colorful antics both on and off the diamond, passed away on Saturday at a care facility in Wheaton, Ill., the club announced Sunday. He was 87.

A member of the Red Sox Hall of Fame, Piersall spent eight of his 17 Major League seasons in Boston, appearing in 931 games with the team. He won two Gold Glove Awards in 1958 and ’61 as the primary center fielder alongside Jackie Custom Bears Jersey Jensen and Ted Williams.

“Ted Williams said [Jimmy] was the greatest center fielder he ever saw,” legendary White Sox broadcaster Hawk Harrelson told MLB.com.

Piersall was elected to the American League All-Star team in 1954 and ’56, also earning the Thomas A. Yawkey Award as Boston’s Most Valuable Player in ’56
Men’s 1985 Chicago Bears 34 Walter Payton Mitchell and Ness Authentic Throwback Navy Blue Jersey after leading the Majors in doubles (40).

Born on Nov. 14, 1929, in Waterbury, Conn., Piersall grew up a Red Sox fan and got the opportunity to play for his favorite ballclub when he signed with the team at age 18. He led his high school basketball team to the New England Basketball Championship in ’47 and scored 29 points in the title game at the Boston Garden.

In 1952, Piersall had a mental breakdown that nearly ended his career. He battled mental illness throughout his playing days and wrote an autobiography Customized Chicago Bears Jersey, Fear Strikes Out, that was published in ’55. It was later made into a movie two Personalized Bears Football Jersey years later, which helped advance awareness of mental health

“Jimmy had some issues,” Harrelson said. “Sometimes he went off the edge. But he was something. [Williams] said he was never afraid of a wall, and back in those days, they didn’t have many padded walls. Most of them were concrete. If you hit them, you were going to get hurt. But Ted said he never backed away from a wall.”

Piersall holds the Red Sox record for most hits in a nine-inning game, going 6-for-6 against the St. Louis Browns on June 10, 1953. Regarded as one of the best defensive players of his era, he was elected into the Red Sox Hall of Fame in 2010.

Piersall batted .272 with 104 home runs and 591 RBIs over the course of his career while playing for the Cleveland Indians, Washington Senators, New York Mets and Los Angeles and California Angels, in addition to the Red Sox.

Quite memorably, while playing for the Mets in June 1963, he clubbed his 100th career home run and circled the bases backwards.

“He was very passionate Walter Payton Jersey about everything he did,” White Sox radio analyst Darrin Jackson said of Piersall. “Obviously, he was a little loco to go with it.”

Following his career as a player, Piersall joined the White Sox broadcasting team alongside Harry Caray and later worked as a Minor League outfield instructor for the Cubs. He played a major role in the development of several notable big leaguers, and in 2012 he was inducted into the Chicagoland Sports Hall of Fame.

Justin Upton hits walk-off Personalized Bears Football Jersey HR to lift Tigers

DETROIT — After torching the White Sox for double-digit runs in the first two games of the series, the Tigers needed some drama to escape with a 7-4 walk-off win and take a three-game sweep over Chicago at Comerica Park on Sunday. Justin Upton homered for the 11th time this season, registering his fifth career walk-off home run.

Detroit earned its first sweep of the season, and now holds a season-high four-game Customized Miami Dolphins Jersey win streak. The White Sox have lost Men’s 1985 Chicago Bears 34 Walter Payton Mitchell and Ness Authentic Throwback Navy Blue Jersey five in a row for the second time this year.

Full Game Coverage

“When you’re struggling as a team, you sometimes feel like nothing’s going your way and it’s hard to win,” Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said. “But when you’re winning baseball games and scoring runs, you come to the field thinking, ‘All right, we can win today.’ There is a confidence factor, and a momentum factor.”

Chicago tied the game in the eighth after three doubles off of Alex Wilson, but Detroit came back in the ninth with an immediate threat. Nicholas Castellanos was hit on the hand with a pitch from closer David Robertson. Miguel Cabrera grounded out and J.D. Martinez was intentionally walked, setting up Upton’s shot into the left-field seats on a knuckle-curve from Roberston.

It was Robertson’s second blown save against the Tigers this season, after he allowed two runs and earned the win against the Tigers on April 29.

“It was back and forth,” said Upton, who barreled his home run a projected 421 feet, according to Statcast™. “We had to battle for runs; they battled back. For us

Sunday got off to a promising start for the White Sox, who had seven baserunners against Justin Verlander in the first two Dan Marino Jersey innings and saw 66 pitches, including 20 foul balls (12 on two-strike counts). Verlander allowed two runs, including Todd Frazier’s third home run in the past seven games, and left with groin tightness in the third inning.

“His groin just tightened up on him a little bit,” Ausmus said. “We don’t think it’s anything major. We got a precautionary MRI, but we don’t expect it to be anything major. We don’t expect the MRI to show anything major.”

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Justin time: Tigers closer Justin Wilson allowed a walk and single to lead off the ninth, putting the go-ahead run in scoring position. Next up was Frazier, who’d homered and doubled already. Wilson got Frazier to pop out, then induced an inning-ending double play on a chopper up the middle to Dixon Machado.

“I felt like if Justin Wilson could get through the top part of the inning, we had 2-3-4 [in the batting order] coming up,” Ausmus said. “And you feel pretty good about those guys.”

Taming the Tigers: The Tigers loaded the bases with one out in the fifth on singles from Machado and Castellanos, and a walk issued by reliever Anthony Swarzak to Cabrera. Martinez grounded the next pitch to shortstop Tim Anderson to begin an inning-ending double play and keep the White Sox ahead
Men’s 1985 Chicago Bears 34 Walter Payton Mitchell and Ness Authentic Throwback Navy Blue Jersey by a 2-1 margin.

“Not to belittle some of the little things we failed to do, but they’ve been grinding, and I’m very proud of the way they play and don’t quit,” White Sox manager Rick Renteria said. “Take that to the bank and make no bones about it. They fight every single inning, every at-bat, every pitch. No matter what the score is, they keep fighting. I hope you see that.”

White Sox James Personalized Bears Football Jersey Shields impresses in rehab

DETROIT — James Shields’ first Minor League outing since 2006 was a successful one, as the veteran right-hander allowed one earned run over four innings and 54 pitches for Triple-A Charlotte while striking out three Saturday night at Buffalo.

“Good stuff,” said White Sox pitching coach Don Cooper of Custom Dolphins Jersey Shields’ rehab effort. “Next time, who knows what we are going to do? We are still going to talk about that, as far as innings and pitches.

“Commanded the fastball down to both sides. I also talked to [Charlotte pitching coach Steve] McCatty, and he verified what Shields was saying. Threw some good

Cooper gives credit to Shields Dan Marino Jerseyfor “killing the conditioning program while he was hurt.”

“When he first started throwing and getting on the mound, it was like, ‘Holy cow, this is like he picked up from where he left off as far as throwing the ball,”” Cooper said. “His conditioning really allowed him to hit the ground running.

“He’s going a little stir-crazy. He’s never been on the disabled list before. We were fooling around last night, and he said he thinks he’s ready Personalized Dolphins Jersey for The Show.

“I told him he needs more seasoning,” a smiling Cooper said. “I said, ‘If you keep up the good work, maybe you will get called back to the Majors.’ He’s anxious, but we’ve taken the time, and he’s done everything he had to. A little more patience is involved, but he should be back here before you know it.”

Said Angels manager Mike Scioscia: “He had to earn every out. He made some pitches when he had to, got some big strikeouts when he had to. That lineup over there, they’ve got some guys that are swinging the bat as well as anyone in the league. He got into the seventh inning, which is a good sign.”

Custom Yankees Jersey White Sox prospect Zack Burdi knows he’s close

INDIANAPOLIS — The phrase “Zack Burdi, White Sox closer” probably stands a

But at one point in the Downers Grove South High School career of Triple-A Charlotte’s current standout reliever, it looked as if “Zack Burdi, Bears

“I thought I was going to be a college kicker for football,” said Burdi during a
Personalized New York Yankees Jersey recent International League road trip to Victory Field. “Baseball wasn’t really my thing.

“Then my junior year, I kind of had a little spike in my velo. I decided to run with it.”

Burdi, who was a center fielder his freshman and sophomore high school seasons, clearly appears to have made the right career choice. He misses hitting,
Men’s Authentic Customized New York Yankees Home White Stitched Jersey although he doesn’t miss facing 90-plus mph fastballs, and now inflicts the pain he once endured on opposing hitters.

Entering Tuesday’s contest, Burdi featured a 1.84 ERA over 13 games to go with five saves in six chances for the Knights. The hard-throwing right-hander has 24 strikeouts and five walks allowed in 14 2/3 innings.

His high-octane stuff would play now at the Major League level. But the White
Custom Orioles Jersey Sox are giving their No. 7 prospect time to refine his entire repertoire and approach.

“We also have to remember that literally 12 months ago he’s pitching at Louisville,” said White Sox general manager Rick Hahn of Burdi, who was the 26th overall pick in the 2016 MLB Draft. “There is an acclimation process that goes on to not only pitching more regularly but what you do on your side days and the travel and doing this full-time as a professional.

“Just like we said at the Draft, he has the kind of stuff to make you think he’s going to come quickly. He has that makeup to make you think he can handle moving quickly.

“At the same time, we want him to get through some consistency and repetition,”
Personalized Baltimore Orioles Jersey Hahn said. “We want him getting acclimated to the lifestyle before he comes up here.”

Bobby Jenks and Craig Kimbrel serve as closing influences for Burdi, but it was his older brother, Nick, who had the first and ongoing impact. Nick, who pitches in the Twins system, was the closer at Louisville in 2014 before Zack took over in 2015.

As a high school kicker, Burdi once connected from 43 yards. It’s a good memory for the now 22-year-old hurler. He figures to make more Major League memories soon but isn’t thinking about a promotion.

“I’ve had things my entire life that I’ve been looking forward to, whether it was Team USA my sophomore year or the Draft my junior year,” Burdi said. “If you just put it in the back of your head and you don’t think about it, it’s going to shake out the way it’s supposed to.

Angels’ Kole Calhoun, Custom Orioles Jersey Mike Trout homer in win

ANAHEIM — Kole Calhoun and Mike Trout smashed back-to-back home runs off
Custom Orioles Jersey Mike Pelfrey in the fifth inning to power the Angels to a 5-3 comeback win over the White Sox in Monday night’s series opener at Angel Stadium.

Calhoun blasted a three-run homer to right-center field to tie the game, 3-3, before Trout followed with a solo shot — his 12th of the season — to left to put the Halos in front, 4-3. It was the first time the Angels have produced back-to-back home runs this year.

Full Game Coverage

Trout has now homered in four consecutive games, becoming the first Angel to accomplish the feat since Mark Trumbo did it in May 2012.

“Unbelievable,” Calhoun said. “His first game [back from hamstring tightness] he didn’t get a hit, and now he’s back to Mike Trout. Every day he’s going to amaze you with something.”

Martin Maldonado added a solo homer in the seventh to help back a strong outing from Angels right-hander Jesse Chavez, who allowed three runs on five hits with one walk and five strikeouts over seven-plus innings. Chavez became only the second Angels pitcher to work into the eighth this season, though he opened the inning by walking Tyler Saladino, prompting Angels manager Mike Scioscia to lift him in favor of Jose Alvarez. It still marked Chavez’s longest start since Aug. 19, 2015.

“I just roll with the punches,” Chavez said. “Today he was able to instill that trust in me and go back out there for that eighth. He gave me that leash, and I didn’t take advantage of it to earn that trust a little bit, but next time he gives it to me, I’m going to take it.”

Chavez retired the first nine batters he faced, but he stumbled in the fourth, yielding a two-run blast to Jose Abreu that gave the White Sox a 2-0 lead. Saladino extended Chicago’s lead to 3-0 with an RBI triple in the fifth, but that proved to be the extent of the damage against Chavez.

The White Sox threatened in the ninth, putting runners on first and second with two outs against closer Bud Norris, but Norris struck out Kevan Smith looking to
Personalized New York Yankees Jersey seal the Angels’ win. Norris recorded the final four outs of the game to pick up his eighth save of the season.

Pelfrey lasted only 4 2/3 innings in his fifth start of the season for the White Sox, surrendering four runs on three hits while walking three and striking out two. Pelfrey allowed just two baserunners through the first four innings before losing his command in the fifth, when he issued two walks and a pair of homers to fuel the Angels’ rally.

“He was throwing a lot of strikes,” said White Sox manager Rick Renteria. “His breaking ball was working well. I thought he was working both sides of the plate. In the end, it started to sputter a little bit. He gave us what he could give us. He gave us a chance to win that ballgame. And quite frankly, I didn’t take advantage of it.”

Pelfrey blamed going deep into counts on too many hitters.

“I’m pretty frustrated,” Pelfrey said. “Pretty disappointed. Pretty tough to

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Angels rock Pelfrey for four runs: The Angels had just one hit entering the bottom of the fifth inning, but they erased a three-run deficit by erupting for four runs behind Calhoun and Trout’s homers. Still, Cameron Maybin ignited the comeback by drawing a one-out walk on a 3-2 sinker from Pelfrey that appeared to be strike three but was called a ball by home plate umpire Mike DiMuro.

But Pelfrey could not escape trouble, as Calhoun and Trout subsequently went deep to shift the momentum in the Angels’ favor. More >

Chavez’s shutdown inning: After the Angels took a 4-3 lead, Chavez came out for the sixth and gave up a leadoff single Melky Cabrera, putting the tying run on first for Chicago. Still, Chavez averted danger by coaxing a flyout from Abreu, a forceout from Leury Garcia and a groundout from Todd Frazier to leave the runner stranded, preserving the Halos’ slim lead.
