Orioles’ Welington Castillo hits grand slam

CHICAGO Customized Cleveland Browns Jersey — Welington Castillo smacked his first career grand slam and recorded a career-best five RBIs as the Orioles snapped their six-game losing six, and an 0-11 mark on the road, with a 10-6 win over the White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field on Wednesday night.

“You kind of think you’re having ‘Groundhog Day’ there for a little while, but guys just refused to give in,” Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. “It’s been a tough stretch for us. We didn’t pitch particularly well, but we were fortunate there were a lot of balls hit hard they we were able to make plays on.”

White Sox right-hander Miguel Gonzalez sat through a 90-minute rain delay before surrendering a season-high eight runs — his most since June 25, 2016, at Toronto — with seven of those runs coming in the fourth and fifth innings. He loaded the bases in each of those frames, allowing three to score in the fourth on a fielder’s choice and a two-run single to Hyun Soo Kim before serving up the slam to Castillo in the fifth.

Grand slams mean 40% off pizza

“I felt like my four-seam was cutting,” Gonzalez said. “The ball wasn’t doing what I wanted to. I felt like my [arm] slot was a little lower than usual. It’s something I have to fix, and then we’ll be OK.”

Castillo’s slam, which Statcast™ projected traveled 439 feet, was the Orioles’ second grand slam this season. It was also responsible for four of the seven two-out runs the team had Wednesday.

“Honestly, I like that situation,” Castillo said. “I’m the kind of guy who likes to come into that situation, because I’m not afraid to fail. This game is about making adjustments. I was just patient in that situation and he left me a fastball up, out over [the plate] and I was able to put a good swing on it.”

O’s starter Dylan Bundy lacked his typical poise and command. He allowed more than three runs for the second time this season, allowing five runs (four earned) all in the first two innings. Chicago got to him early on a two-run single, and a Matt Davidson homer. But Bundy retired nine of the last 11 batters he faced.

“Throwing and pitching are two different things there,” Bundy said. “I didn’t execute in the first two innings, and then started pitching later in the game.”

Alen Hanson slugged his first Major League home run for the White Sox in the ninth inning. It was the first pinch-hit homer of the season for Chicago.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Second chances: The Orioles looked ready to limit the damage of an early White Sox lead in the second, catching Yolmer Sanchez too far off the bag when rounding third base for what should have been the second out. Orioles second baseman Jonathan Schoop’s throw was high, allowing Sanchez to score and another runner to eventually score on Jose Abreu’s sac fly. Schoop got the last laugh, drawing a two-out walk — his 15th in 249 plate appearances — to load the bases just before Castillo’s grand slam.

“I’m one pitch away, and it’s been like that the whole year, but I’m sure it’s going to change at some point,” Gonzalez said of the Schoop at-bat Customized Carolina Panthers Jersey. “I’m going to put my head down and keep working hard, and good things are going to happen.

Schoop was pleased with his restraint during the key plate appearance.

“If you [make] a mistake, you’ve got to come up and forget about it,” he said. “I was trying to have good at-bats, and trying to [make sure] the ball is a strike. If you know me, you know I’m aggressive, and if you throw it out of the zone, I might get myself out. I had a better game plan today.”

Davidson dingers again: Davidson led off the second inning with a bang, taking Bundy to the opposite field for a leadoff homer — his third blast in as many days. Davidson’s homer had an exit velocity of 106.3 mph and traveled a projected 415 feet, according to Statcast™. This is the first time he’s hit homers in three consecutive games. The blast moved Davidson to 5-for-11 for the series with seven RBIs. He leads the White Sox with 13 home runs this season.

“He’s hitting well but it comes and goes,” White Sox manager Rick Renteria said. “I think for the most part his approach and his routine has been pretty consistent. The outcome hasn’t been what he’s wanted prior to this little spurt and all that he’s kind of picking up again. But I think again if he gets pitches he can handle he’s able to do some damage with them.”

QUOTABLE
“Was that his first career home run? Wow. Goodness. Thank you for telling me that. I didn’t know that. Custom Browns Jersey In the big leagues? Yeah. He went in there, he looked very calm at the plate. Took a couple pitches — or one pitch — and then got a pitch to hit and obviously hit it out of the ballpark. All the Men’s Nike Carolina Panthers Custom Elite Team Color Black Super Bowl 50 Bound Jersey guys were excited for him, yes.” — Renteria, on Hanson’s first career homer

“I’m going to get a couple swings off. That’s my expectation right now. I’m in the lineup … DH, first base, wherever. I’m in the lineup and that’s a big thing for me.” — Orioles rookie David Washington, who went 0-for-4 and struck out three times in his Major League debut

White Sox right Custom Panthers Jersey fielder Avisail Garcia continues to impress in a breakout 2017, and did so again Wednesday night in collecting three hits against the Orioles. It marked the American League-leading 10th time this season Garcia has collected three hits in a game, moving his season batting average to .339 — second-best in the AL.

ROSTER MOVE
The White Sox announced they will option reliever Juan Minaya to Triple-A
Men’s Nike Carolina Panthers Custom Elite Team Color Black Super Bowl 50 Bound Jersey Charlotte following the loss. Minaya worked two innings Wednesday, allowing two runs on four hits. The right-hander posted an 8.10 ERA in seven appearances this season. A corresponding move will be announced Thursday.

WHAT’S NEXT
Orioles: Right-hander Chris Tillman (1-4, 8.01) will start for Baltimore in the series finale Thursday at Guaranteed Rate Field at 2:10 p.m. ET. Tillman hopes to end a habit of allowing runs in the first inning. He’s allowed at least two runs in the first innings of his past seven outings and has a 16.71 ERA in the first frames of his seven starts this season.

White Sox: David Holmberg (1-0, 2.74) takes the bump for the final game of a four-game set Thursday afternoon at 1:10 p.m. CT in what might be his last start before returning to the bullpen with James Shields’ return. He’s allowed six runs in 12 2/3 innings as a starter this year.

White Sox James Shields to Customized Cincinnati Bengals Jersey come off DL Sunday

CHICAGO — James Shields, on the disabled list since April 21, will return to the White Sox starting rotation on Sunday in Customized Cleveland Browns Jersey Toronto.

The veteran right-hander is expected to be activated from his first stint on the disabled list Sunday. It will be his first start since sustaining a strained right lat on April 16. Shields, who threw 90 pitches in his final rehab start with Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday, said he Customized Carolina Panthers Jersey will have no innings or pitch limit on Sunday.

Full Game Coverage

“I got up to 90 pitches down there in my last start, progressed pretty well,” Men’s Nike Carolina Panthers Custom Elite Team Color Black Super Bowl 50 Bound Jersey Shields said. “I feel pretty good. I’m ready to go. I felt good for the most part, and I’m ready to rock.”

Shields got off to a solid start this season, posting a 1.62 ERA in three starts after a 6-19 record in 2016. Shields said he had a good feel for his stuff during his three rehab outings, and his arm strength is good to go for a full-fledged return.

“My very first game, I feel I started off right where I left off Custom Bengals Jersey. Obviously Custom Browns Jersey, it’s a work in progress. I’m still getting my arm back in shape. I feel like it’s pretty good right now. I feel pretty solid to go,” he said.

Shields’ first career DL stint saw him return to a place he hadn’t been in 12 years — riding the buses of Minor League life.

“I was a road warrior for the Charlotte Knights there for a little bit,” he said. “I got one bus ride in. It brought back a few memories. I think it’s been 11 or 12 years since I’ve been Customized Cincinnati Bengals Jersey in the Minor Leagues, so it was pretty interesting.”

With Shields’ return, the White Sox are expected to move left-hander David
Men’s Nike Carolina Panthers Custom Elite Team Color Black Super Bowl 50 Bound Jersey Holmberg back to the bullpen. Holmberg is scheduled to start Thursday’s series finale against the Orioles, but was not listed in the future rotation for Chicago’s trips to Toronto or Minnesota.

Worth noting

• White Sox right fielder Avisail Garcia should be good to go despite being hit by a pitch on his left elbow during the sixth inning of Tuesday’s over the Orioles, and was listed in the starting lineup Wednesday. White Sox manager Rick Renteria said Garcia will undergo his usual routine and will be ready to play,

barring any setbacks.

• Renteria received a delayed celebration for his 100th career win as a manager Tuesday, shortly after his 101st career win when the White Sox topped the Orioles. The team gave Renteria a brief beer shower, which Renteria said caught him by surprise.

“Yeah, it did, I appreciated it,” Renteria said. “I wasn’t thinking about it. Honestly, I wasn’t aware of it. I was taken aback a little bit. I was pleasantly surprised by their interest in it. So they gave me their bath. It was interesting. It was fun.”

White Sox pitchers nearing return from DL Men’s Nike Carolina Panthers Custom Elite Team Color Black Super Bowl 50 Bound Jersey

ST. PETERSBURG — The White Sox have six pitchers on the disabled Custom Panthers Jersey list, but the South Siders’ list of walking wounded could begin to get a little shorter as soon as next week.

Starter James Shields will make his next rehab start with the Charlotte Knights on Thursday. The veteran righty, who was placed Custom Bengals Jersey on the 10-day DL on April 21, has missed his last eight starts because of a strained right Men’s Nike Carolina Panthers Custom Elite Team Color Black Super Bowl 50 Bound Jersey lat.

Full Game Coverage

In his first rehab start on Sunday, Shields (1-0, 1.62) allowed one earned run in four innings, striking out three. Barring any setbacks, he could return to the White Sox rotation as soon as next week’s series against Baltimore, although White Sox manager Rick Renteria Custom Browns Jersey said that there is no set timetable for his return.

The team also announced that left-hander Carlos Rodon (bicep bursitis) will make his Customized Cleveland Browns Jersey second rehab start, also with team’s Triple-A affiliate in Charlotte, on Sunday. Rodon, who has been on the 10-day DL since April 2, allowed five earned runs on four hits in 3 1/3 innings for the White Sox Class A Advanced affiliate, Winston-Salem, on Tuesday.

“[Rodon] came out healthy which is what we are most encouraged about and we’ll continue to see those guys progress,” Renteria said.

Shields and Rodon join rehabbing reliever Jake Petricka (right lat strain) in Charlotte. Petricka, who was placed on the 10-day DL on April 5, has made two appearances, allowing three earned runs in three innings.

Relievers Nate Jones and Zach Putnam, both on the 10-day DL because of elbow injuries, did not make the trip to Florida but have been working with team trainers in Chicago. A date for their return to the mound has not been set.

White Sox go for polished hitters in Draft Men’s Nike Carolina Panthers Custom Elite Team Color Black Super Bowl 50 Bound Jersey

CHICAGO — The 2017 MLB Draft for the White Sox, which concluded Wednesday, was not onCustom Panthers Jerseye based on selecting for a specific position need.

It also wasn’t one totally built on the organization’s ongoing rebuild, although Custom Browns Jersey the rebuild certainly would be enhanced by a second straight solid Draft under scouting director Nick Hostetler. But a theme

Those players represent a change under general manager Rick Hahn, with a move away from the pure athletes to the more polished baseball players.

“I don’t know if it’s fair to say change in philosophy,” Hahn said. “We want to have guys who we project will have an impact in Chicago and fit a certain profile both offensively as well as ideally defensively and how we want the game played.

“We are looking for athletic players like everybody in the game. But certainly those who come with a level of acumen and have a track record of success and are able to bring certain elements to the game we’ve been lacking for the last several years around here.”

In total, the White Sox selected 22 pitchers (14 right-handers, eight left-handers), two catchers, nine infielders and seven outfielders. They picked 34 collegiate players and six from the high school level.

Through the first 30 rounds, eighth-rounder Sam Abbott stood as the only high school pick. He was an All-State water polo player and a projectable baseball
Men’s Nike Cincinnati Bengals Customized Elite Away White NFL Football Jersey player.

“There was a time in the third round where we were targeting a high school guy and got picked,” Hostetler said. “We got picked three different times on high school players.”

First-round pick Jake Burger, a third baseman from Missouri State, figures to be part of the first big wave of White Sox prospects coming in the next year or year and a half. He’s also an example of the power emphasis, along with the low-strikeout, high-walk philosophy targeted the last two years.

“You will see what’s more important to us is understanding of the strike zone and doing damage on pitches within the zone,” Hahn said. “Trying the best to lay off pitches out of the zone.

White Sox pick Larry King’s son

“Not every pick is going to be exactly on the screws for all regards. You try to find enough guys that have a balanced skillset and a level of performance and a level of enthusiasm from scouts in that room that they project that player continuing to be or becoming a player that we feel can have success in Chicago.”

Customized Cleveland Browns Jersey Hostetler joked about any scouting director not happy with their Draft probably should be fired the next day. But he seemed genuinely pleased with his second class at the helm.

“We’ve added high-impact, power middle-of-the-order bats that really control the strike zone,” said Hostetler, who pointed to 11th-round pick Will Kincanon and 14th-round pick Alex Destino as possible standouts from Wednesday. “That was our key. We started adding some guys who can run today and we had some big power arms.”

Mike Pelfrey Customized Cleveland Browns Jersey perseveres without best stuff

ST. PETERSBURG — White Sox starter Mike Pelfrey admitted he didn’t have his best stuff in a 3-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday.

“I didn’t think my stuff was great, and my command wasn’t very good, for whatever reason,” Pelfrey said. “I tip my cap to them for making me throw over the plate and grind through at-bats and making my day tougher than it was already going to be to begin with.”

Things could have been Custom Panthers Jersey tougher if it weren’t for the pitcher’s best friend — the double play.

“It was just one of those games,” Chicago catcher Kevan Smith said. “He was competing. He wanted to get into the seventh or eighth but they brought their sticks a little bit and took advantage of some of the pitches that maybe we left up or shouldn’t have thrown. I thought he did a heck of a job getting out of some jams.”

Pelfrey used double plays to limit the damage, including one in the bottom of the third. With the Rays having already scored three runs to start the frame, Pelfrey
Men’s Nike Carolina Panthers Custom Elite Team Color Black Super Bowl 50 Bound Jersey managed to get Rays catcher Derek Norris to ground into a 5-4-3 double play to stop the bleeding.

“I don’t think those pitches were that good, either,” Pelfrey said of the sinker he used to coax the DP balls. “They were more over the middle. I think [White Sox third baseman Todd Frazier] made a good play on that one.”

Since 2015, Pelfrey has induced 58 double plays, the third-most among all pitchers in that span. Last season he coaxed hitters into 24 double plays, the third-most in the American League, behind Texas’ Martin Perez and Seattle’s Hisashi Iwakuma.

Pelfrey, who has a 51.6 percent ground-ball rate over the past three seasons, was able to get through the fifth on just six pitches after inducing three Customized Cincinnati Bengals Jersey straight groundouts. The veteran righty took the loss, however, to fall to 2-5 on the season. He allowed two earned runs on three hits over 5 1/3 innings. He struck out four and walked three — two of which were
Men’s Nike Carolina Panthers Custom Elite Team Color Black Super Bowl 50 Bound Jersey intentional.

“He kept Customized Carolina Panthers Jersey us in there,” White Sox manager Rick Renteria said. “I know he had a lot of traffic throughout the ballgame — some of that was self-induced by myself putting on some guys Customized Cleveland Browns Jersey to try and get him some matchups — but other than that, I thought he did a pretty nice job.”

Rays beat White Sox on strong debut by Faria

ST. PETERSBURG — The Rays entered Wednesday’s game against the White Sox onCustomized Carolina Panthers Jersey a four-game skid, with their pitchers showing signs of fatigue on the heels of a long road trip. But Tampa Bay got just the jolt it needed from a Triple-A callup.

Right-hander Jacob Faria dazzled Custom Bengals Jersey in his Major League debut, pitching 6 1/3 innings of one-run ball in the Rays’ 3-1 win over Chicago in St. Petersburg Wednesday.

Full Game Coverage

“We needed a win,” Rays manager Kevin Cash said. “Generally you don’t ask for a guy to come up and make his debut to provide that, but it worked out. He was outstanding for us.”

The White Sox dropped their sixth of seven games, mustering just three hits off the Rays rookie and four total.

“You look at that ballgame, it wasn’t an ugly ballgame. We just weren’t able to score enough runs to stay ahead,” White Sox manager Rick Renteria said.

The Tampa Bay offense came through for Faria in the third inning, pushing a trio of runs across against White Sox starter Mike Pelfrey. Tim Beckham lined an RBI single to right field, where Avisail Garcia mishandled the ball. Garcia’s error gave Logan Morrison time to score from second and put the Rays on top 2-1.

• Pelfrey perseveres without best stuff

One pitch later, third baseman Todd Frazier’s throw home on Daniel Robertson’s grounder wasn’t quick enough to nab Colby Rasmus. The Rays’ left fielder elusively adjusted his feet-first slide away from Kevan Smith’s tag.

Chicago’s first batter came around to score against Faria on Jose Abreu’s RBI single, but the rookie settled in and held the White Sox off the board the rest of the way.

Faria’s emotional adjustment after allowing a pair of hits within the first three
Men’s Nike Carolina Panthers Custom Elite Team Color Black Super Bowl 50 Bound Jersey batters impressed Cash the most.

“You could tell he was amped, and probably throwing some balls up in the zone,” Cash said. “His energy, anxiety, whatever you want to call it, was not helping. But he was able to correct a lot of those issues really quickly for a young pitcher in that type of atmosphere.”

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Bash it like Beckham: Beckham stepped up in the bottom of the third with the bases loaded. With the Rays down 1-0, the shortstop lined an opposite-field single to drive in Evan Longoria. Morrison followed Longoria home when the ball squirted behind Leury Garcia after bouncing Customized Cleveland Browns Jersey off his glove, giving Tampa Bay a lead it would not relinquish.

White Sox start strong: The first White Sox batter came around to score for the second night in a row, when Abreu grounded an 0-2 pitch through the right side to bring home Garcia. Catcher Derek Norris aimed his glove inside but Faria’s offering leaked out over toward the far side of the plate.

QUOTABLE
“He showed zero fear of attacking and getting outs within the zone. That’s a big ask for a young guy to come in and come get some of these hitters out. But you’ve got to prove Customized Cincinnati Bengals Jersey and establish that you’re willing to get them out in the zone, not looking for a chase every single time they’re going to swing. And he did that.” — Cash, on Faria

Custom Cowboys Jersey This Is The Beginning Of The End Of The Fossil Fuel Industry

The fossil fuel industry is at a crossroads.

Oil and gas giants such as Royal Dutch Shell, ExxonMobil and BP continue to reap stupendous profits from selling products that contribute to the high levels of carbon emissions causing climate change. Like the tobacco industry before it,Custom Cowboys Jersey  these companies have poured money into lobbying and misinformation campaigns to escape restrictive regulations.

But, as world leaders gather in Paris for the month-long COP21 climate talks, the fossil fuel industry’s future is in jeopardy. There may be an abundant supply of oil, gas and coal and — at least for now — a strong demand for these products,Men’s Nike Cleveland Browns Custom Made Elite Team Color Brown Football Jersey, but there is a growing urgency among business leaders and policymakers to stem usage before the effects of global warming worsen dramatically.

“We are going to look back at some point in the future and see 2015 as a real turning point for the industry,” Andrew Logan, director of oil and gas program at the sustainable business nonprofit Ceres, told The Huffington Post. “Either companies will see the writing on the wall and realize that their business-as-usual approach is a fool’s errand — that’d be the optimistic outcome — or they up doubling down on the business-as-usual approach and end up sowing the seeds of their own financial demise down the road.”

Oil prices have been volatile this year. A glut of oil, driven largely by the increased production in the United States,Custom Bengals Jersey sent the price per barrel of crude plummeting. The price of West Texas Intermediate crude was just $41.85 per barrel on Dec. 1. In a note to clients on Nov. 19, Goldman Sachs warned investors that oil could drop as low as $20 per barrel.

That has left Big Oil financially vulnerable. Profits sank across the industry. Oil giants have been forced to scale back costly research projects. In September, Women’s Nike Custom Dallas Cowboys Elite Team Color Navy Blue NFL Football Jersey,Royal Dutch Shell called offdrilling exploration in the Alaskan Arctic.

“We’re at a time in the history of the industry where most companies still have a lot of projects on the books that are older, cheap and throwing off a lot of cash,” Logan said. “But they have nothing more to invest in other than things that are expensive and high-carbon.Custom NFL Football Jersey The industry has to decide whether it takes the money it’s generated and plows it back into the high-carbon, risky assets, or it does something else with it that’ll get it on a different path.”

Coal, still the biggest generator of electricity in the U.S., hasn’t fared much better. Industry giant Alpha Natural Resources went bankrupt in August. Though consumption remains highin China, the infamously smog-choked country has begun cracking down on coal. A growing number of universities and cities — including New York — are divesting from coal.

“Either companies will see the writing on the wall and realize that their business-as-usual approach is a fool’s errand — that’d be the optimistic outcome — or they up doubling down on the business-as-usual approach and end up sowing the seeds of their own financial demise down the road.”Men’s Nike Personalized Cleveland Browns Elite Team Color Brown NFL Football Jersey.

“It’s definitely the beginning of the end,” Naomi Ages, a climate campaigner and attorney at GreenPeace USA, told HuffPost. “From a financial side, the fossil fuel industry is seeing it’s not sustainable to continue with this business model. They’re going to have to invest in renewables.”

But it’s not enough. Global demand for oil continues to grow. And, even with pledges from 150 countries to cut emissions, the International Energy Agency still projects that globaltemperatures would rise by 2.7 degrees above pre-industrial levels by 2100. Many scientists predict that an increase more than 2 degrees Celsius, or 3.6 degrees Fahrenheit, would make the climate unsustainable for human civilization as it is today.

“Science tells us that there is one path for us to be able to have a stable planet and a safe stable economy, and that is to get onto a below 2 degree path — that is fundamental,” Christiana Figueres, executive secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, said in a statement last week.Men’s Nike Custom Made Cincinnati Bengals Elite Team Color Black NFL Football Jersey.

That’s why a strong deal in Paris is needed to accelerate the shift to a low-carbon economy, powered by renewables such as solar, wind and water.

As it is, the movement to make that transition has gained steam. Big banks are slashing lendingto coal mining companies.Custom Browns Jersey The number of companies putting a price on their own carbon emissions, thereby creating a financial incentive to wean off fossil fuels, has tripled since last year. An unlikely coalition of corporate giants — including Goldman Sachs, Johnson & Johnson, Starbucks and Walmart — signed a commitment to transition 100 percent to renewable energy, with several setting a goal of under a decade.

The clock is ticking.
