ST. PETERSBURG — White Sox starter Mike Pelfrey admitted he didn’t have his best stuff in a 3-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday.
“I didn’t think my stuff was great, and my command wasn’t very good, for whatever reason,” Pelfrey said. “I tip my cap to them for making me throw over the plate and grind through at-bats and making my day tougher than it was already going to be to begin with.”

Things could have been Custom Panthers Jerseytougher if it weren’t for the pitcher’s best friend — the double play.
“It was just one of those games,” Chicago catcher Kevan Smith said. “He was competing. He wanted to get into the seventh or eighth but they brought their sticks a little bit and took advantage of some of the pitches that maybe we left up or shouldn’t have thrown. I thought he did a heck of a job getting out of some jams.”
Pelfrey used double plays to limit the damage, including one in the bottom of the third. With the Rays having already scored three runs to start the frame, Pelfrey
Men’s Nike Carolina Panthers Custom Elite Team Color Black Super Bowl 50 Bound Jersey managed to get Rays catcher Derek Norris to ground into a 5-4-3 double play to stop the bleeding.
“I don’t think those pitches were that good, either,” Pelfrey said of the sinker he used to coax the DP balls. “They were more over the middle. I think [White Sox third baseman Todd Frazier] made a good play on that one.”
Since 2015, Pelfrey has induced 58 double plays, the third-most among all pitchers in that span. Last season he coaxed hitters into 24 double plays, the third-most in the American League, behind Texas’ Martin Perez and Seattle’s Hisashi Iwakuma.
Pelfrey, who has a 51.6 percent ground-ball rate over the past three seasons, was able to get through the fifth on just six pitches after inducing three Customized Cincinnati Bengals Jersey straight groundouts. The veteran righty took the loss, however, to fall to 2-5 on the season. He allowed two earned runs on three hits over 5 1/3 innings. He struck out four and walked three — two of which were

ST. PETERSBURG — The Rays entered Wednesday’s game against the White Sox onCustomized Carolina Panthers Jersey a four-game skid, with their pitchers showing signs of fatigue on the heels of a long road trip. But Tampa Bay got just the jolt it needed from a Triple-A callup.
Right-hander Jacob Faria dazzled Custom Bengals Jerseyin his Major League debut, pitching 6 1/3 innings of one-run ball in the Rays’ 3-1 win over Chicago in St. Petersburg Wednesday.

“We needed a win,” Rays manager Kevin Cash said. “Generally you don’t ask for a guy to come up and make his debut to provide that, but it worked out. He was outstanding for us.”
The White Sox dropped their sixth of seven games, mustering just three hits off the Rays rookie and four total.
“You look at that ballgame, it wasn’t an ugly ballgame. We just weren’t able to score enough runs to stay ahead,” White Sox manager Rick Renteria said.
The Tampa Bay offense came through for Faria in the third inning, pushing a trio of runs across against White Sox starter Mike Pelfrey. Tim Beckham lined an RBI single to right field, where Avisail Garcia mishandled the ball. Garcia’s error gave Logan Morrison time to score from second and put the Rays on top 2-1.
• Pelfrey perseveres without best stuff
One pitch later, third baseman Todd Frazier’s throw home on Daniel Robertson’s grounder wasn’t quick enough to nab Colby Rasmus. The Rays’ left fielder elusively adjusted his feet-first slide away from Kevan Smith’s tag.
Chicago’s first batter came around to score against Faria on Jose Abreu’s RBI single, but the rookie settled in and held the White Sox off the board the rest of the way.
Faria’s emotional adjustment after allowing a pair of hits within the first three
Men’s Nike Carolina Panthers Custom Elite Team Color Black Super Bowl 50 Bound Jersey batters impressed Cash the most.
“You could tell he was amped, and probably throwing some balls up in the zone,” Cash said. “His energy, anxiety, whatever you want to call it, was not helping. But he was able to correct a lot of those issues really quickly for a young pitcher in that type of atmosphere.”
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED Bash it like Beckham: Beckham stepped up in the bottom of the third with the bases loaded. With the Rays down 1-0, the shortstop lined an opposite-field single to drive in Evan Longoria. Morrison followed Longoria home when the ball squirted behind Leury Garcia after bouncing Customized Cleveland Browns Jersey off his glove, giving Tampa Bay a lead it would not relinquish.
White Sox start strong: The first White Sox batter came around to score for the second night in a row, when Abreu grounded an 0-2 pitch through the right side to bring home Garcia. Catcher Derek Norris aimed his glove inside but Faria’s offering leaked out over toward the far side of the plate.
“He showed zero fear of attacking and getting outs within the zone. That’s a big ask for a young guy to come in and come get some of these hitters out. But you’ve got to prove Customized Cincinnati Bengals Jersey and establish that you’re willing to get them out in the zone, not looking for a chase every single time they’re going to swing. And he did that.” — Cash, on Faria

Faria is the third pitcher in Rays franchise history making his Major League debut to go six or more innings while allowing a run or fewer. He follows Wade Davis in 2009 and Jeff Niemann in 2008.
WHAT’S NEXT White Sox: Chicago will wrap up its three-game set at the Trop by sending veteran lefty Derek Holland to the mound for the 6:10 p.m. CT start. Holland is coming off his worst start of the season after allowing eight earned runs on eight hits — including three home runs — against Detroit .
Rays: Tampa Bay righty Jake Odorizzi toes the rubber with an extra day of rest before the 7:10 ET game. Odorizzi made six starts in a busy month of May, but lasted only 2 1/3 innings in his Friday outing against Seattle, in which he was

Derek Norris capitalized on a pair of Derek Holland offspeed pitches left over the middle of the plate, sending both into the left-field bleachers. It was the first multi-homer game from a Rays catcher since Curt Casali achieved the feat on consecutive days in 2015.
Peter Bourjos turned on an 0-2 pitch following Norris’ second round-tripper and barreled a ball 435 feet onto the tarp in left field. Activated from an elbow injury earlier in the day, Bourjos scored multiple runs for the first time this season Customized San Diego Chargers Jersey.
“If you make a mistake, these Custom Saints Jersey guys are going to capitalize on it,” Holland said. “Obviously, these are big league hitters. Hats off to those

The damage done by Norris and Bourjos from the bottom two spots of the order came on a night in which the Rays’ first-through-fourth hitters batted a collective 2-for-14.
Down 6-0 in the sixth, the White Sox rallied as Avisail Garcia’s first-pitch cut turned into a three-run homer. Todd Frazier went deep in the eighth, a two-run round-tripper that brought Chicago to within one run, but Rasmus took the wind from the White Sox sails in the bottom of the same frame with his home run.
With 12 hits in the game, the White Sox equaled their combined total from the first two games of the series.
Rays starter Jake Odorizzi bounced back from a short outing in Seattle, lasting 6 2/3 innings against the White Sox, striking out eight and allowing three earned

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED Glove save by Robertson: In the eighth inning, the Rays pulled the infield in, in an effort to keep the tying run at third base. Yolmer Sanchez laced a sharp grounder with visions of evening the score, but slick glove work by second baseman Daniel Robertson kept the ball in the infield and the runner at third. Colome entered the game and left the runner stranded before Rasmus added to the Rays’ lead with a solo shot in the bottom half of the inning.
Garcia’s shot cuts the lead in half: Garcia got the White Sox back within striking distance by barrelling a ball 446 feet, his third-longest of 10 homers this season, according to Statcast™. The ball left the bat at 105.6 mph and cut the score to 6-3.
“The fact of the matter is, no matter what the starting pitchers are doing, we still keep grinding and trying to make it a game. We keep grinding, keep going and I think whatever the opposition does we have to counter it. It’s hard to do that in

ST. PETERSBURG — At the beginning of Chicago’s series in Tampa Bay, White Sox manager Rick Renteria stressed the desire for his team to play “clean baseball” against the Rays.
The White Sox arrived in Florida riding a five-game losing streak. Two games in, and there are still a few stains.
“We’ve been talking about it since the beginning,” Renteria said. “I don’t care how good of a club you are in terms of talent or not, you have to play clean baseball. Part of that is hitting the cutoff guy. Part of that is not running into

The White Sox have committed multiple errors, including a pair during

The White Sox stranded nine of 16 runners during the first two games of the series, and are just 2-for-8 with runners in scoring position. Hitters had also struck out 23 times entering Thursday’s contest. Chicago was caught stealing on three of its four attempts, and Leury Customized San Diego Chargers JerseyGarcia — who leads the team with six steals — was responsible for two of those.
Chicago has been caught on 17 of its 37 attempted steals this season. The team’s 54 percent success rate is the lowest in Customized New York Jets Jerseythe American League. Chicago also had one runner Custom Saints Jersey picked off

Renteria said his players understand the need to have sound fundamentals, and have been doing a good job of “policing each other” on the field, but added some players may try to do too much.
“Every aspect of the game has to be done with a purpose, and everybody has to know their skill set and what they have to improve upon in order to execute certain things,” Renteria said.

CLEVELAND — In his second start since being activated from the disabled list, Indians ace Corey Kluber came through Customized New York Jets Jersey with another solid outing on Friday night. Backed by Edwin Encarnacion’s go-ahead two-run homer in the fifth, Kluber’s six strong innings led the Indians to a 7-3 victory over the White Sox at Progressive Field.
In his six innings of work, Kluber (5-2) allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out eight en route to his second straight win. Relievers

“I thought he was good,” Indians manager Terry Francona said of Kluber. “There was some traffic, but it seemed like when runners got on, he went to his breaking ball, his curveball really effectively. He made pitches when he had to. When he’s in there, we’re down or it’s close the whole way, so there wasn’t any wiggle room for him.”
• If Tribe doesn’t get hot, Lindor to shave head
Despite its recent struggles, the Indians’ offense provided enough support for Kluber. Encarnacion — who had a season-high three hits — hit his 11th homer of the season after Michael Brantley’s RBI single in the first and Bradley Zimmer’s bases-loaded walk in the fourth. The Indians scored three more runs in the eighth on Custom Saints Jersey back-to-back RBI hits from Lonnie Chisenhall and Yan Gomes.
“It’s really good,” Encarnacion said of the win. “We played the style of baseball
New Men’s Nike Customized San Diego Chargers Elite Alternate Powder Blue Football Jersey that we need to play and we know we can play. We’ll keep on motivating one another and continue to go out there and do our best.”
• Tito: Deep ’16 run not reason for so-so start
The White Sox scored all three of their runs off Kluber. Melky Cabrera and Todd Frazier each connected for an RBI single in the third, and Jose Abreu drove in the third run on a sacrifice fly in the fifth. Abreu later exited the game with a leg bruise after a hit-by-pitch in the seventh.
Miguel Gonzalez was handed his seventh loss of the season after allowing four runs on six hits in 4 2/3 innings. The right-hander walked four and struck out two on 96 pitches.
“Felt good. It’s frustrating. One pitch away from getting out of that fifth inning,” Gonzalez said. “If I minimize the walks, it’s a different ballgame. Just gotta keep working. Can’t look back anymore. It’s a tough one to swallow, guys are battling

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED Zimmer says no: Following a leadoff single and stolen base by Adam Engel in the top of the third, Cabrera tied the game, 1-1, with an RBI single. With Cabrera on second, Avisail Garcia drove a single to center. It appeared that Cabrera would score easily, but Zimmer came up with a strong, two-hop throw — which was nearly cut off by first baseman Carlos Santana — to Gomes to nab Cabrera at the plate, temporarily bringing a halt to Chicago’s rally. The play was the first career outfield assist for Zimmer.
“It’s just another thing, just another moment you save there,” Zimmer said. “I got to it quick and I tried to get rid of it as quick as I could. I threw it pretty low but luckily I had enough to get it there. But yeah, it was big. It was big.”
Edwin goes yard: After the White Sox took the lead in the top of the fifth on Abreu’s sacrifice fly, the Indians hit right back in the bottom half of the inning. Following a two-out walk to Santana, Gonzalez hung a slider to Encarnacion, and the Indians designated hitter connected for a go-ahead, two-run homer into the trees beyond the center-field wall. Encarnacion’s home run traveled a projected 430 feet and had an exit velocity of 108 mph, per Statcast™.
“That was nice for him and us,” Francona said on Encarnacion’s home run. “To see him come up in that situation and, like you said, do what we got him here to do, it’s nice. I was happy for him.”
“I think that maybe we can use tonight as a starting point to continue to play that way. I think we’ve probably all come to the conclusion [that] we haven’t played the way we wanted to. CLEVELAND — Jake Petricka returned from his rehab assignment and rejoined the White Sox bullpen Friday, after going through what he said felt like 1 1/2 years of injury rehab.
The right-hander missed all but nine games in 2016 due to right hip surgery and had just one scoreless appearance this season before being sidelined by a right lat strain. He worked the eighth inning during a 7-3 loss to the Indians at Progressive Field, allowing four straight hits to start the frame and three runs overall.
“It was a lot of me pushing, and them saying, ‘Don’t be dumb.’ I think we did it right and we are good to go.”

Men’s Nike Custom Made New York Jets Elite Green Team Color NFL Jersey Sale He takes the place of Brad Goldberg, who was optioned to Charlotte following Thursday’s loss to the Rays.
“Very challenging on the mental side and obviously the physical side,” said Petricka of his last two seasons. “The hip one was a ticking time bomb from my days playing hockey. The lat, that was one they kind of say it was like a hamstring.

Renteria makes his point
Television cameras caught a demonstrative and fiery Renteria instructing his team in the dugout during the fifth inning of Thursday’s loss to the Rays. The team was down, 6-0, at the time but lost, 7-5. Renteria didn’t expound much on what his speech entailed when asked Friday.
“Told them to keep playing the game. Pretty much it. Just play the game,” Renteria said. “Just give them some encouragement. Keep going.
“It really wasn’t anything big,” said a smiling Renteria. “Wasn’t a big deal. Just giving them some encouragement. Keep playing.”
Renteria is not a big team meeting person, unless there’s a purpose behind the conversation.
“It’s like a dog that’s always barking. At some point you just start to ignore it,” Renteria said. “You have to have a good feel, a sense of time for when it is you’re supposed to speak to people. I don’t think that’s necessarily limited to the game of baseball.

• Avisail Garcia trying to go from first to third on a Frazier infield single, with Jose Ramirez doing a good Custom Vikings Jersey job of getting back to the base to tag him out in the third.
